If you think this is the pier in Cayucos, California on a foggy day, you'll only be partly right.  It is Cayucos at 5:30 AM.  I arrived home a couple of days ago.  This is actually the view from our window at On The Beach B&B.  My two sisters and I met up there and enjoyed the town, the hotel, the beach and each others' company.  If you do click on the link, there is a picture of the lobby with a quilt hanging on the wall.  The lady who made the quilt is also the cook.  A hot breakfast and a happy hour with appetizers were served daily as well as a great house-made dessert in the evening.  If you go to the 'rooms' link, the top photo is the room we stayed in.  Notice the view.

Here is the appetizer from day one. Clockwise from top, arugula salad with choice of toppings  (pecans, raisins for me) a yummy quiche, a savory quinoa cake.



After all the talking was done or nearly so, we went into Morro Bay about 5 miles south so I could go to The Cotton Ball. This is a favorite quilt, fabric, home decor store.  I mentioned it a previous post. Monkey on the Branch. 

I took this photo there this week.  However they are moving from this location soon.  Still in Morro Bay.

I bought this pattern. There was a sample made up from the larger version on the front of the envelope.  It was entirely different in fabric from the photo, not quite so bold.








I bought batiks.  I love batiks.  Upon arriving home I washed the chosen ones and . . .

. . . here they are.  I have spread them out on the loom while Zorro completely ignores me. They are beautiful, yes?  Yes!!!

Because I am finishing up a project this weekend, I'll start the bag on Monday or perhaps sooner. Chi sa?  (Who knows--in Italian)

About a hat

What about a hat you say?  They are fun, keep out rain, keep sun off face, look fancy or stylish or just make a statement.  I have made a hat.  Yup, it's true.  Our Sheep to Shawl team needed some head gear.  I dug through my patterns and found this one.

This one is from Folkwear .  A lovely chapeau, no?

Then I found this one, an oldie but a goody.

 This one is from, I believe, Simplicity.  The envelope is gone from house right now therefore I'm unable to positive.  The pattern is from 1997 so no longer on their website (or on McCalls either). Update, it is Butterick. It's too old to find.

The team members like View H above which is quite similar to the Folkwear pattern.  There were 3 size smalls and 5 size mediums.  I made a sample.  A kindly old woman agreed to model it for me.

I had thought at first it was reversible, but I was wrong. Perhaps a more accomplished seamtress could have done it any way.  The hat lining matches perfectly the pinafore I made for our fiber guild sheep.

I hadn't made the hat when I took this photo.  She's looking pretty cute.  Wait until you see her with her hat on.

This past Thursday Pam and I got together and sewed up a hat for every member of the team.  Here is one.  Keep in mind the button is really a lime green.  Pam and I both have that photo problem from time to time.

I hope to get a photo of the team in action wearing their hats.  They'll be doing a demonstration at the  El Dorado County Fair  Father's Day weekend.  The following weekend they will be in Eugene, OR for the Black Sheep Gathering. There they will win the competition for the 2nd time.

The team members wear an apron with this logo on it.  The hat color matches the blue on the mountains.   Once more the colors are not good representations of  how things really look.

It Had to Happen

Suddenly from somewhere deep in my head the vision of another unfinished project surfaced. So numerically speaking, I'm back where I started with 66 projects to go.  But who the heck is speaking numerically?  Because I have one completed project and 66 to go, not zero completed projects.

A lime green fleece vest is in my future.  The pieces have been pinned in place.  I did that sometime before June, but it went no further.


                                                                    
I have been working on my red blouse. Speaking about a red blouse, I'm very fond of Antonio Carlos Jobim.  Do you know the name?  Were you cognizant in the 60's?  I loved Brazilian jazz/ samba.  I still do.
What's she talking about now? You ask.  Still Antonio. The second cut on his 'Wave' album is 'The Red Blouse.'     I have his albums Wave and Tide.  I had no clue how to attach the MP3 to my blog so I went to Youtube.  Alas, no Antonio playing The Red Blouse, so this is the one I picked.  Normally it's an instrumental,   I like this one anyway. My aqua hoodie is coming along nicely.  No photo yet.  It excites me to do something new to me and have it work out.  So putting the sleeve stitches on to scrap yarn, casting on new stitches and  then going on with just the body of the sweater just made my day.  I am trying hard to finish this by August 1st, but as I started the blog on July 9th, I have until August 9th to finish.  We will see.

Oops

As I started to work on Sewing Project #2, I realized that the pattern I posted here was not actually the one I cut out for this red blouse.  So here is the correct one.  Again my close-up photos are not very clear.

I'm making the short-sleeved top like the two in front, but no skirt or slacks.

I have also been sewing for the theatre as I mention.  Doing repair work, taking out old stitching and making some cravats.  You know in the early 1800's in France men wore cravats rather than ties.    The costume coordinator plans to have some group sewing days. We'll see what happens.

Brocade and satin cravats, white breeches, a ruffled shirt and other such things. Enough for now.

And what about the garden? Garden? Yes, just a couple of photos.  It's because veggies and flowers are so wonderful.
