Fabric Love

So that's my fabric photo essay.  Maybe you could go write your own essay today.

I Cook. Sometimes.

Since I'm on my own, I don't do a lot of cooking.  But sometimes.
Yesterday I had these left-over spinach ravioli.

They are from the Monterey Gourmet Food company.






So I chopped or sliced these things: orange bell pepper, carrot, celery, onion, garlic and lacinato kale.

I sauteed them until almost soft. Then I added:

and, voila

Cooked until heated through with a bit of seasoning like basil and a bay leaf etc.

Then I added the ravioli, but didn't take a photo. And when I did remember to take another picture I had already grated cheese over half the recipe.  

This goes to show I'm not good at photo journaling, but I maybe an okay cook.

For anyone who may be disappointed there is nothing about sewing today,  I just returned from Tucson where I visited SAS Fabrics. 

Although I didn't buy anything here (hard but not impossible) I did say I wish there was a SAS Fabrics in Sacramento or Folsom.

Cats and Batiks

Two cats to the vet.  Two cats home.  

Zorro, el guapo.

He has been in our family since 2001. He was an adult when he wandered up and asked for asylum from the loneliness of the world.   He is a Manx who is also nick-named, El Gordo.

He had some vomiting two nights in a row so called at the vet's.  He is extremely healthy to quote the vet.  All his lab work was excellent.  So I'm just watching him indoors for a couple of days hoping there is no obstruction.

Fig, the new kid on the block.  Only Dr. Carmody says he's about 6 years old.  He is home following his surgery and the discovery of an abscess (he was treated for it during the operation).   I just now was able to give him his eye drop.   That's for the conjunctivitis.  He is now officially part of my family.

That was the cats. Now for the batiks.

I love them, both actually, but I speak of batiks now.  Yes, it is fabric.  I have not disguised the fact that I love fabric and now you know that batiks are some of my favorite.

Finished something

It's true. Besides that Dots box book I finished the pads for my chairs. I posted the fabric for them  here.

Here's three.  No wait . .

There are four.  All finished.  The sun is setting and therefore the light is dim.  It's OK, I love them. (Does ok really have to capitalized?)


Intergenerational Hollywood Film School.  Remember?  I was going to post some photos, but there was the fire.  Then I forgot until I was putting together an album for my trusty companion, Charles.

One of the highlights of the film school was a program about stunts by a working stunt man named Jason.  Here he is strangling a young teen.

Charles is filming a scene from our movie, "The Moral Policy".  We used the 19th floor lounge as an office.  The program leaders gave the kids a theme and they wrote, directed, filmed, edited and added music.  Grandparents helped a little especially with acting.  In our group there were 6. Three boys and their grandmothers.

The theme was good vs evil.

There was also a make-up artist. Pretty disturbing, eh?

 

Charles got a very realistic scar.  He looks a bit dangerous, doesn't he?

 

We also took a tour of the Sony Pictures Studios. They were once MGM Studios.  This building had offices and a display of Academy Awards.  It has also been used in movies.  It was the high school building in "Back to the Future."

Once again I want to recommend Road Scholar Intergenerational programs for fun and learning with a grandchild.  They have them for all ages of kids from 6-17, they have separate ones for teens and younger kids.

PS  Our movie " The Moral Policy" is about 8 minutes long.  I will try to post it when I figure out how to do that.  I first need to get it off the flash drive.  More soon about, well, whatever. Ciao.

Am I Blue?

Not exactly.  It is summer as evidenced by the 90+ temperatures. Blue is such a refreshing color.  So I'm making another blue skirt.

I have it all cut out so will be posting the finished (note I said finished) project soon.

Did I mention how I decided to take a photo a day?  I started June 4. 2014.  So far I have missed two days, so I put a little reminder alarm in my phone.  That seems to be working so far.  I promise I won't do this every day, but here is yesterday's snap.

It's May, it's May, the lusty month of May

Did you love Camelot?   I saw the movie the first time years ago when my husband and I were newlyweds.   Then I saw a wonderful stage version a couple of years ago at our local Imagination Theater.

 Did I tell you about the pants I was going to make from a sheet?  Well I just checked and I didn't so here is a brief post about them.


The pattern is a basic pant from Brown Paper Patterns.   I wanted a capri/crop style so I played with it.

The fabric is a sheet from the thrift store with a satin-like stripe.


It's obvious to me, I need some photography pointers.  As you will see, the clarity is poor.  I live alone and there's just no one to either model or do the picture taking.

Why does it look misty?  I guarantee it was not foggy in the house. 

 I did get them the right length.  I have put left and right side pockets in and a patch pocket on the right seam for my mobile phone which I like to carry on me.

Making something now with this lovely fabric. Again my photography doesn't do it justice so see it here.  I should be finished with it by Monday.  It would be sooner, but I have a long busy day tomorrow.

Fabric?  Since you said yes, let's do.  How much do you love it?  Have you thought about moving so you would have more room for it?  Have you obtained a storage unit to accommodate it?  Do you ever buy fabric just because it's gorgeous even though you haven't any idea what you're going to do with it?  Do you think making your house look something like a fabric store would make you feel good all over?  Have you ever been to Britex?  In San Francisco?  Four stories of fabric and notions?  That is the biggest fabric store I was ever in.  Take a tour here. This takes you to the first floor, but you can see a sample of all the floors.

This is just a sample of the walls there.  Please note the ladder needed to get to those top shelves.  Ooowhee!

I also love The Cotton Ball.  It's in Morro Bay, California.  It's not terribly far from the Hearst Castle.  In fact, my family and I were visiting there some years ago.  In our motel room, the TV played places to go in the area. One look at The Cotton Ball and I knew I had to go there.

Well,  I didn't start out to talk about fabric shops, but I love to go to them.  I have also bought fabric online.   These three have always come through with great fabric.  I have ordered more from eQuilter recently.  Big Horn Quilts is another favorite.  I used to ordered from Craft Connection, but they don't seem to be in business any more.  All carry brand-name fabrics.  Yay for fabric!!!
