And I thought I was done

When the show closed on December 30th, a sold-out performance, I knew there was one more day.  On January 4th, we had to strike the set.  That means putting the theatre back to it's former self.  Everyone involved with the production was supposed to participate.  I joined in, but being unfamiliar with tools such as hammers, drills, etc. I helped with organizing the costumes for storage and return to costumes rental places.

Aack! Is she still talking about that show?  Where's the challenge?

I heard that.  I know, I promised and it will happen. Believe me.  So, at the strike I volunteered to take home some of the costumes for wash and repair. Thankfully there were only a few minor repairs, but oh, the washing.

Country CurtainsHappy Weekend.  It's kind of weird about weekends now that I'm retired.  It wasn't too much of a transition, however, because when I was working I worked many weekends and holidays.  But because I now have every day off, I sometimes forget when it's a weekend and try calling some business or other.  Being in the production of Les Miserables, has helped me to beware of what day of the week it is.  It's not a job, but I must attend. Imagination Theater in Placervillie, CA   is where I'll be most of the time for September, October, November and December.  It's going to be great!

My second child, Alex, is here visiting me from Arizona where she is the Emerging Technologies Librarian at Cochise College.  (You know I just love saying that.)  This is part of the reason there are no updates. on my challenge.  I am still knitting and sewing, but not as much as I will when she has to go home.  I want her to stay and perhaps live around the corner from me.

Did you know that to become a librarian you must have a Master's degree in Library Science?  Yep, you do.  Here is Alex at her graduation.  She is entitled to wear that drape( it's called a hood) at every graduation ceremony in which she participates.  Fancy.

And here she and I are behind our Foster Grants ( they're not really that brand) when I visited her last year.  We were at the Biosphere 2 outside of Tucson.

Changing the subject now. About 3 years ago I completely redid my large living-dining area. Floors (I had always wanted wood),  paint (color not off-white) and furniture ( Pottery Barn and IKEA).  Then I got curtains ( Country Curtains and PB). I had made the small curtain for the kitchen earlier from a farm scene fabric and the glass deck door curtain from a sheet.  You remember me mentioning sheets?  Well, now.  The glaring problem is that door curtain.  It's awful, a kind of dead grey-blue.  Well, readers, look what Alex found.

A little slice of this on the door would be pretty nice.

You can see the door and it's pretty awful curtain in a Christmas photo from last year.  Also the curtains from Country Curtains are visible  No PB furniture showing, but the table cloth is from there and there's an IKEA bookcase to the right of the door.

As I started to work on Sewing Project #2, I realized that the pattern I posted here was not actually the one I cut out for this red blouse.  So here is the correct one.  Again my close-up photos are not very clear.

I'm making the short-sleeved top like the two in front, but no skirt or slacks.

I have also been sewing for the theatre as I mention.  Doing repair work, taking out old stitching and making some cravats.  You know in the early 1800's in France men wore cravats rather than ties.    The costume coordinator plans to have some group sewing days. We'll see what happens.

Brocade and satin cravats, white breeches, a ruffled shirt and other such things. Enough for now.

And what about the garden? Garden? Yes, just a couple of photos.  It's because veggies and flowers are so wonderful.

Another Project?

A couple of months ago, I volunteered to help with the costumes for a local production of Les Miserables.

Last night, the wardrobe mistress gave me some clothing to alter.  Just a few little things and they are now done.  Sewing costumes is fun.  There are 70 cast members. The show is opening November 29th.  The costuming part will pick up speed I'm sure, but I am still planning on keeping on with my challenge.

The hoodie I'm knitting is at a difficult part for my hands.  There are 284 stitches on the needle right now.  One round is taking me about 30 minutes.  Every other round I increase 8 times, but I'm nearly to the number of stitches I need to put the sleeves onto holders while I finish the rest of the body.  That should go a bit faster.  I got a cramp in my left had during one round today,  so I tried to stopp every few minutes and stretch out my fingers.

Here's the sweater.  The yarn is cotton from Halcyon and the pattern is Knitting Pure and Simple which I purchased with the yarn

Besides the costume work, I've worked an hour on the Valentine scrub top.  Photo when it's closer to being done.  And now for something to make you smile.  Right next to me enjoying the twilight from the window sill, it's Edward P. Cat.
