I Really Needed a Zipper

Howdy

It's true, I did need a zipper.  That is all I have left to do on my sister's vest.  Oh, I bought a zipper when I bought the fabric, but I altered the pattern and the zipper I bought is too long.  When it comes to separating zippers, I'm a novice.  But I was being bold, yes, me, I was being bold.  I thought perhaps there was a way to shorten a separating zipper.  YouTube to the rescue. Number one and number two.  Both good.  So I tried.  No luck.  I could not pull the teeth off like both presenters said.

You must believe me,  I tried because I didn't want to go to Joann. (Secretly, I always want to go where there is fabric for sale). I really needed the zipper.  I contemplated going to Walmart (closer, but I dislike it intensely) for about 5 seconds.  So I gave myself a talking to and left.

You know what's coming, don't you?  Yes, I did get my zipper. And, I confess, that zipper cost me $51. That's not including gasoline.

See the finished vest very soon.  I'd like to get a picture of it on my sister, but I may not be able to do that for ages.  I'll get a model.  Ahem, me.

                                                          

My grandson is going to a party in October where costumes are desired. He's going to be 'The Dread Pirate, Roberts' and for this year's pirate costume, he's going to make it himself with help from his mom.

Did I Mention

I love socks?  Yes, I did here.  My beloved eldest child, Elizabeth (the mother of my cool grandson) also loves socks.  She knits faster and better than I and I'm in awe.  So looky here.  For me!

They are so detailed and intricate. Who would want to wear shoes?

We knitters are  fond of things for holding knitting projects and tools.

That's pretty yarn and those are pretty small needles.

You are right. It's a pair of socks in the making.  l knitted one to the point where one starts the heel, so I'm now doing the same for sock 2.  This beautiful yarn is  Kelpie from Dragonfly Fibers .  More about socks some day soon. "That's a promise and a threat." (from a song by Heart)

Finished something

It's true. Besides that Dots box book I finished the pads for my chairs. I posted the fabric for them  here.

There are four.  All finished.  The sun is setting and therefore the light is dim.  It's OK, I love them. (Does ok really have to capitalized?)


Intergenerational Hollywood Film School.  Remember?  I was going to post some photos, but there was the fire.  Then I forgot until I was putting together an album for my trusty companion, Charles.

One of the highlights of the film school was a program about stunts by a working stunt man named Jason.  Here he is strangling a young teen.

Charles is filming a scene from our movie, "The Moral Policy".  We used the 19th floor lounge as an office.  The program leaders gave the kids a theme and they wrote, directed, filmed, edited and added music.  Grandparents helped a little especially with acting.  In our group there were 6. Three boys and their grandmothers.

The theme was good vs evil.

There was also a make-up artist. Pretty disturbing, eh?

 

Charles got a very realistic scar.  He looks a bit dangerous, doesn't he?

 

We also took a tour of the Sony Pictures Studios. They were once MGM Studios.  This building had offices and a display of Academy Awards.  It has also been used in movies.  It was the high school building in "Back to the Future."

Once again I want to recommend Road Scholar Intergenerational programs for fun and learning with a grandchild.  They have them for all ages of kids from 6-17, they have separate ones for teens and younger kids.

PS  Our movie " The Moral Policy" is about 8 minutes long.  I will try to post it when I figure out how to do that.  I first need to get it off the flash drive.  More soon about, well, whatever. Ciao.

Off On An Adventure

I am leaving for another great Road Scholar program with my grandson, the fabulous Charles.  This is our third one.  It is called Intergenerational Hollywood Film School.  For five days we'll learn with other grands and kids what is involved in producing a film.  Our drive will take about 6 hours to Glendale, California.

Our first trip was also to southern California.  We went to Buena Park for a wonderful program about crime scene investigation which they don't seem to have any more.  Too bad it was fascinating.

Last summer we went to Oregon for photography.   I did write a post about this last year, but here are a couple more pics from that one.

Where did she go?

Sacramento!  I've been hanging out with my wonderful grandson for a few days.  At 15, he is very capable of caring for himself, doing his homework and chores without prompting but alas, he still needs a ride to school.  He goes to a charter school which is too far to walk and there's no bus service.  So, hooray, I get to spend time with him and drive him around while his parents are off celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary on the California coast.

Last year he and I went together to a Road Scholar program about Crime Scene Investigation.  He's learning about evidence collection and processing. A very cool teenager.


 On the Oregon coast this summer.  That's my grandkid in the middle.  He's 6ft tall.  We had a great time learning a bit about photography. Again with Road Scholar.  Check them out here. Road Scholar




I have been knitting as much as my fingers can take and my hoodie is coming along.  I need to knit 5 more inches before I can start knitting in the side slits and hem, then onto the sleeves.  Whoa, I might actually have this very nice garment for the coming fall.

This is several versions of the hoodie,  Mine will have the hood and  long sleeves.  I purchased the pattern and yarn from Halcyon Yarn . Halcyon is the lady standing second from the left.

Now as I mentioned several times before, I am sewing for the local production of Les Miserables.  Sewing for the blog is going slowly, but I expect it to pick up when the costumes are complete.  I'm cutting and sewing shirts/blouses.  The costume gal has given me fabric and much of it is sheets.  It is absolutely amazing what one can do with sheets.  No photo of the lovely curtains I made for my bedroom (years ago) from some  tree printed sheets from Sears.  I also purchased lining fabric from their catalog.  I'm not sure they even have a catalog any more.

I just found these cute dresses made from sheets on the internet.  Vintage and lovely.  You think?

This outfit, being worn by my friend's husband for a Relay for Life event, was made from a Renaissance pattern using a king-size sheet set from the thrift store.It's too bad you can't see the lovely, rich-looking stripe on the material.
