Current and Proposed Projects

Howdy

I will, I will, I will finish the duffles.  There were actually 4 to do and one is done. One is half done, another is cut out and waiting,  I can't remember about #4.

One on the right is not finished, No lining.

But the one on the left is complete.





I had trouble with the piping on the ends of the bags. Perhaps practice is what I need.  Piping does add a certain je ne sais pas to the duffles. Also to other things.

I think when the lining is added to the bag on left. it will help smooth out the wrinkly piping.




I found the pattern as a tutorial from SewCanDo by way of Sew She Can.  I changed the pattern a bit.
#1  I found that lining the straps with the same fleece as the bag made them too difficult to turn right side out.  I left the fleece out of the straps.  A lighter interfacing though might make them less floppy.
#2 I had to change the way I added the zipper because when I did it like the photo, it didn't work.  So I looked at the photo taken after the zip was sewn in and worked backwards.
Otherwise I think they are cute.  So hoping to finish all by Thanksgiving.

I have some spinning to do.  Well, actually, plying.  The spinning's complete.  Oops, what I should have said is, 'some' spinning is done.

This one is plied.  It's called Salsa Caliente.  



The one I need to ply is below. However, I have forgotten it's name.

It's all ready, I just need to do it.



Weaving.   Finally got the new warp tied on to the old warp.  New experience for me.  It worked!

It's tied on but not beamed.  I have no photo of that.  

What I have is a picture of the start of a new set of towels.

This was meant to be a  more sagey green that this or maybe just a deeper hue.  It's a Finnish twill pattern.

There are soooooooooooooooo many more projects in my world to be completed. These have been 5 of them.

Some New and Some Review

Remember dog blankets for Christmas? See it here.  I was able to get a photo of little Lady D on her blanket (thanks to my son) so here she is.

She seems cozy.  She maybe be bit suspicious of the camera.  Do you know this dog does a good impression of a T-Rex?   I've seen her do it.

I have made a few of them and I decided to make another.  This is the photo gallery, not quite complete.

This isn't even the right side of the fabric.  Just sewing the outer portion.

Because this was a bit lighter weight fabric as compared to my other bags, I made a firm bottom to fit inside.  I covered a piece of cardboard.

There is it all tucked inside.

The color is truer in view one, but this one has something inside to fill it out a bit.

Doggie Christmas Presents

As promised yesterday, here are some dog presents.  Don't get too excited because they are all the same thing only different fabric.  I am putting them on in the order in which I made them. 

For Lady D. who lives in a faraway state with my son and his wife.

Joann had a big sale on flannel right before Christmas.  So there are dogs on one side; a solid aqua on the other. 

It is about 42" sq. and tied with pearl cotton in orange.

This is Lady D though a bit blurry.  I don't have a photo of her on her gift. Maybe soon.

Sacramento granddogs next. 

So we have black and white paws on one side and black and white bones on the other. Good for a white dog, yes?

Yes!  And Sonny knows how to pose.

Last but by no means least is George's blanket.

To be similar to his brother, we have brown and white paws. And to be his own; pale green with brown and white dots.

And here's Georgie!!  He's cuddling to his new blanket.  He likes it in his crate with him.

He's here because he likes it. He is not in trouble.

Perhaps you may wonder (are you wondering?) what of Sophie? Did she get a blanket?  Perhaps she got a warm sweater?  Perhaps special Christmas dinner treat?  Nope.  She got no Christmas gifts from her mom at all.  She got some liver treats from Elizabeth and she loves them.

Sophie does know how to stay warm, however. Please note:

She is a champion heater hog!

Another Year is Here

Happy New Year to all.  Isn't it exciting?  So much potential.  

The following photos are of the Christmas items I made.  I wanted to share earlier around mid December, but I didn't want to give any secrets away.

I tried hard to align the plaid, but here at the seam where the back yoke connects to the back  I didn't manage it.

   

My first time making a placket in a sleeve.  This flannel is very heavy.  I ended up using a walking foot.

Finished and received.   I love this son of mine.

I bought this stretchy rib knit to make this same son a sweater.  You see, I was planning to knit one for him, but I kind of gave up knitting.  So when I saw this pattern from Thread Theory Designs I decided to sew a sweater.  Morgan Meredith there also gave me wonderful suggestions for places to buy sweater knits.   If you like sewing for men do visit this site.  So very helpful.  There was even a sew-along for the Finlayson Sweater which is what I made.

Wonderful to see him in his sweater.  He lives 2000 miles away from me.

I made aprons for my girls.  I started with my daughter-in-law as she lives farthest and so had to mail early.

The 30's reproduction fabric has bunnies sailing in leaf boats.  Also I made the bias binding using one of those binding makers I borrowed from a friend.  Then I promptly went out and bought some for myself.

My oldest daughter wanted a holiday apron,  'a different holiday'.

So she has a reversible St. Patrick's Day apron.

So hers is also reversible.  Candies on one side and . . .

I will close for now. Tomorrow, if you choose to return, I'll share the sewing that was done for my three granddogs.  It was lots of fun sewing for Christmas.  I want to do it again next year.

See too dark, but closer to how it looks.  Maybe I will get a photo of the guys wearing them.  I made a skirt for my daughter then failed to get a photo before I gave it to her. Here's hoping I get one with her in it sometime soon.



Remember batiks? Here.   I made a blouse for myself from one. It's not one of the ones I already posted. This one has an Octobery feel.

Oh, yes, one of my favorites.  Here's another.  An oldy.  This is one I made as a scrub top to wear when I was working as an RN.  It's well worn and still loved.

Must get back to sewing.  I'm enjoying it so much.  I've neglected my other hobbies for a few weeks. Oh there was the 6 hours I spun on the second weekend of this month.   But mostly sewing.

Enjoy  Fall, maybe dress up for Halloween, be kind to Trick or Treaters,  and thank the Lord for changing seasons,   bye.

I am a Dud

That's with a capital D.  A blogger dud.  But I haven't been idle.  Well, not very idle anyway.   I've made some bags for the Coop, and a couple of aprons for people I like (love).  You will have to take my word on this as I failed to take any photos.   Also I have wound a warp for my next weaving project.   I have a photo of it waiting to be tied on.   It is a natural colored 10/2 cotton for towels. The weft will be red for 2 towels and a lovely blue for 2.  More later.

Today I have a goal of cutting out 2 men's shirts and a skirt.  I have bought some cool fabric with a kind of Halloweeny feel.  There are photos of the fabric here today.

Meanwhile I am continuing to study watercolor painting online.  I finished my pear class.  See :D

Since I received a tablet for my birthday, I have not only resumed online classes in a variety of subjects, but also begun studying Italian and Swedish on DuoLingo.   My head is almost as full as when I was in nursing school.   Okay, not really.

Jag ar en kvinna.   (2 dots over the a in ar)  means "I am a woman."
I can also say  Jag ar (2 dots) en pojke.   This is not a true statement, however, as it means "I am a boy."

In high school I had 4 years of Spanish and 2 of French,  I've studied Italian on my own or with Rosetta Stone for several years.  So why not Swedish, eh?

One more photo for this post.  Was that a sigh of relief I just heard? Oh, anticipation?  I see.   I took this one last evening on the deck. The air was cool and soft.  Watching my new watercolor class seemed like a good idea,  on my new tablet. Heehee.

I call this one "Tabby and Tablet".  Good choice,  I believe.

Short and Sweet

Hi all
I made salmon tonight from my Wednesday delivery from Blue Apron.  Their photo then mine.

That's Seared Salmon on spinachy barley with sorrel and dill on top.

There's mine looking small, but I think that's because it is a big plate.

And hurray,  I finished the shirt for my son-in-law.  Here it is.

This is, of course, without him in it.  Maybe I will get a photo of him wearing it sometime.

It's map fabric in greys, white, pale blue, tan.  I found the buttons in my button box and they work well with it.

My cat, Eddie, has discovered the blue rug I set my spinning wheel on.

He doesn't seem to mind sharing.

Silly Eddie.
