Ocean Beach Shore

I miss the coast.  It doesn't have to be a tropical beach with surfers and volleyball.  Sand castle building is always nice.

I found this one. Wow!  The rock surround.  There was no one nearby to claim it though I expect the waves eventually did.

Been visiting and more

I've just had most of a lovely week with my daughter, Alex, who lives in another state. We took a 2 night 3 day trip to the Monterey Bay area and Big Sur.  I did not get a photo of her in the skirt  but it fit and she likes it.
Here is a couple photos from our trip.

 

This is a stop along the 17 Mile Drive which is part of Pebble Beach in Pacific Grove. Not the greatest photo, but the weather was superb.  I was much into enjoying what I saw rather than capturing it in photos.

This is the Lone Cypress.  Very famous. Very old. Two hundred-fifty years old, it is believed. I'm sorry about the strange woman who managed to get in my picture..

On Thursday we drove to Big Sur.  We ate brunch at Cafe Kevah ( if you look at the photo on the right, the far edge of the patio? We sat there).  This is a cafe serving brunch all day, it's part of the Nepenthe a long time restaurant in Big Sur.  Did you ever see "The Sandpiper"  with Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, Eva Marie Saint and Charles Bronson?  Remember the Academy Award winning song, 'The Shadow of your Smile '?  Well, anyway it was filmed in Big Sur and there are scenes at the Nepenthe which looks much the same today.

Later we went to Pfeiffer State Beach.  It was busy as the weather was so good, but we found a spot to sit and enjoy the ocean and rocky cliffs.

 

It has long been my habit to take a photo of my foot where ever I go. I have many such photos.   Perhaps I will soon share some with you.  I chose my foot as my feet are a part of my body I appreciate very much.

Longing for the Sea

Where does it come from?  The need for a certain place or kind of place?  Is it because you grew up there?  Maybe it's because you had so much fun in such as place when you were young.  Perhaps it's in your blood because a parent and their parents before them spent summers on an island.

For me, it's the ocean.  The seaside.  Rocky, driftwood strewn coast or glorious wide sand beach. And the weather?  Doesn't matter.  Sunny or stormy.  And so some of my favorite places in no particular order of love.

This is me. I'm in North Carolina on the Outer Banks.  It's March 2007 and look!  I'm the only one on the beach.  Oops,  I guess there is a photographer, yes.  However, I don't remember who it was.  Some kind stranger, I think.

I'm thankful to say that besides the places  above I have had my feet in the Atlantic in Maine, New York, New Jersey, Virginia and South Carolina.  I have also touched the Tyrrhenian Sea.

My husband to be and I spent lovely moments together at the beach near Half Moon Bay when we were dating.  I had this album (a record) called The Sea.   Here is the a video of the first song put on YouTube by the artist, Rod McKuen.  Do You Know My Friend the Sea?   

The home movies used in the video are very evocative of those happy times with Don.   I hope you enjoy it.  This post is definitely intensifying my longing for the ocean. Maybe next month, stay tuned.
