Oh No Sorry

Well, my 30 day challenge started off very well.  But then the holidays and my old nature happened.  So  I am going to restart it soon.  I'll let you know, if you care.  It's fine if you don't.

Confession time.  I love Austin Kleon.  Well, in a way, not like a sweetie nor like a son.  Like someone I might like to have as a good friend.  He listens to good music, reads interesting things, writes a good blog, tells anecdotes sort of.  He's interesting.  Yep, that's it.     His blog

Certainly I am not the writer he is, but  I like writing.  I love to make people laugh, but I don't know how to do that on paper, or computer.  People have told me I'm funny even my kids have said so.  Keep in mind my kids are adults so I think that when they say " You're funny, mom."   It's quite different from a teenager saying, " You're weird."  If I am funny and/or weird, I pray it's the good kind.

Poems:            The rain comes quietly but
                        Awakens a sleeping frog
                         Ribbit

It is rainwater
Dropping on a stone path
Splashing my boots

I thought they were 'haikus', but they may not be such.  They are, however, about rain and are by me.

Another               Not about rain

Do One Thing Every Day

What do you like to do?   It's entirely possible that you like to do more than one thing.  Do you do the things you like to do or do you just think about them?  Say  " Boy, I sure would like to write a blog."  Or, maybe it's, "I sure would like to finish  those projects I have started."

It's possible you may find yourself reading a variety of blogs rather than writing one.  Perhaps starting a new project is more fun than finishing that one from last year.   But as the day ends, you realized you didn't really do a blog post or work on a UFO.   Maybe you are busy with a job, young kids, teens (or both) pets, volunteering and are tired at the end of the day.

Years ago when I was a nursing student, 1990's,  I worked very hard at that and also did my housework (sort of) and mothering.  There was so much reading, learning medications, diagnoses, signs and symptoms, that I just didn't do much else.  A couple of years later when I returned to nursing school to get my RN, I decided I couldn't do without reading something other than text books. My plan was to read 5 minutes a day at bedtime something non-medical.

I did that no matter how late it was, after all it was only 5 minutes.
It made all the difference in my year.  My mind relished in the joy of poetry, a mystery or biography.

So have decided to try to do things every day for 30 days. Go outside and move about (sitting outside not included) for 10 minutes and write for 10 minutes, poetry, letters, journal and/or blog post.  I keep 3 journals, computer, handwritten and recorded.
So any of the three qualify.

I'll write a post about my efforts in 31 days.  Ya'll come back and see what happens.

I got this idea awhile ago from an article from somewhere in which I have written "from Cyndi's blog lipstick jungle".  Today have searched for this so I can give her credit, but I couldn't find it anywhere.  In the article she mentions, Austin Kleon, whose blog I did find.   He mentions the 30 day goal so here is a link to that.

Besides this post from November 1, 2017, he has other interesting things to day.  He is a writer who also does art.

I will leave you today with a beautiful photo of a cloud.  I hope it's one I've not already posted.

July 2015

Hi everyone.  This is not a post.  I have no post for today.  I guess I haven't had a post for a few weeks now.  So  I'm going to put some photos up.  When I return from John. C Campbell Folk School, I will post.  As Heart says (I may have quoted them before) "That's a promise and a threat."

Cabin in the Wood

Little cabin in the wood,

Little man at the window stood.

Saw a rabbit hopping by...

Okay,  I'll stop.   I was once a pre-school teacher and sometimes I just can't help it.   This came on me just now when I was thinking about my visit this past few days to a lovely cabin in the Plumas National Forest.  See photo above.

To protect the people to whom the cabin belongs, I won't show any more photos of the cabin.  I took a bunch because the inside was so nice and the views through the windows were beautiful.  Here are some I took on route and in the vicinity.

Flowers growing wild along the road.

On route near Sierraville from the driver's seat.  Yikes.

Thanks to Lynne and Pam and the generous cabin owners for a very nice few days.

More sewing coming up. Ciao.

Water heater

Good morning.  I am awaiting the arrival of my new water heater.  In 1996, I had to replace the one that was in the house when we bought it in 1984.  The propane guy said water heaters only last about 12-14 years, so I guess I'm doing okay.  Thankfully mine still heats the water so I did have a nice shower this morning. But it's leaking.  Water is just running out and down my back stairs.  All outside so it's okay no flooding.

The propane people (I'm switching companies) will take out the old and put in the new and hook me up to the new tank.  I've had the same propane tank for 30 years so suddenly I'm nostalgic about it.

Do you see it there behind the Weber and the doggie yurt?

Does waiting for workmen make you edgy?  I understand why they can't give an exact time so I don't blame them for that. The time frame this morning was not before 8:30 but closer to 9:30.  I started expecting them at 7.  I know it's just nuts.  It's 8:25 now.  Come on guys, I'm ready.

They're here.  It's Jared. And it's 9:15.  Others are coming..  Things are wrong with the shut off to the water heater so Jared had to shut off all the water.  You know what that means.  No flushing!  So back to the sewing room.

There are many kinds of Quilting magazines and I have them.

The propane men are still at work.  It's 10:10. Here's what's happening now.

They were able to move the old tank a little bit,  it's full of propane and very heavy.  The old company owns the tank and the propane.

Way over there barely visible is the new smaller tank.

And it's getting cloudier and cloudier.  We're supposed to have thunderstorms.  I'm praying they stay away until the work is done.  Okay,  it's back to sorting through magazines and trying to get the sewing room more user friendly.

There it is almost ready to go. And I have my new water heater.

It's now 3 days later. I'm reporting on Tax Time.  I owe again this year, but not as much as last year.  I made $50,000 worth of needed improvements on my 29 year house in 2013 for which I received a $500.00 deduction for energy efficient changes.  My wonderful tax preparer also found a little something related to my late husband's pension which helped a lot.  Thank you , Bruce.

Thanks also to the Lord who made heaven and earth and allows us to enjoy the beauty of them both.

I'll be back,  perhaps with sewing news or sewing room news.  Bye.
